Encore plus désolé
Ah well.
As with the football World Cup last year, the fight for third place was far the better match. But won is won. Congratulations to the Boks and their nation. With the Webb Ellis Cup and its concomitant prestige headed south, perhaps President Mbeki can run in under its lee and espouse, at long last, a sensible Aids policy.
Had you realised how short Mbeki is, BTW? I hadn't, till I saw him next to, and only very slightly larger than, the frankly Napoleonic Sarkozy. As one of the spear-points of the anti-apartheid movement, Mbeki had always been twelve feet tall for me. Doesn't matter, though. His head could graze Nicolas's kneecap, he'd still be a giant. Just this: while it's painful to see anybody believe idiocy about HIV, it's all the more painful when the idiot is otherwise a hero.
And now we're done with egg-chasing. At least till February, anyway.

I wondered how you'd feel about it. At least it wasn't a humiliation. If they'd won by thirty odd points again, that would have been awful.

Ah, thnks, Jon, but I was an enthusiastic neutral here: hoping for England but believing in the Boks.
It was anything but a clear and convincing victory. I am a traditionalist at heart, but don't mind monkeying with the system if it will make things better. One goal = one point is, obviously, best of all, but we already have that in the default code. 2X+1 for an unconverted try would seem a useful approach for rugby.
